Whisker Guide is a cat care app built by Carrot Cottage Rescue, a registered UK charity (No. 1210378). We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains exactly what data we collect, what we don't, and how we handle everything transparently.
Overview
Whisker Guide is designed with privacy by default. The app works almost entirely offline. Most data you enter — your cat's name, vaccination records, medical entries, microchip numbers — is stored only on your device and never transmitted to us or any third party.
Data Stored on Your Device
The following information is saved locally using your device's storage (localStorage). It never leaves your device unless you explicitly share it:
- Cat names, birthdays, and adoption dates
- Vaccination records and due dates
- Medical chart entries (vet visits, medications, notes)
- Flea and worm treatment logs
- Microchip ID numbers
- Mood journal entries
- Premium purchase status (cached locally)
This data is deleted when you uninstall the app or clear app data from your device settings.
Location Data
The Vet Finder feature requests your device's location to find nearby veterinary clinics. This requires your explicit permission before any location data is accessed.
- Location is used in real time only — it is not stored or logged
- Location is not transmitted to Carrot Cottage or any analytics service
- Vet search results are fetched from OpenStreetMap's public API
- You can deny location permission — all other app features remain fully functional
In-App Purchases
Whisker Guide offers one optional one-time purchase: Whisker Premium, which unlocks the Mood Journal feature.
- Purchases are processed by Apple App Store or Google Play Store
- We use RevenueCat to verify purchase entitlements
- RevenueCat may receive your anonymised purchase receipt for verification
- We do not receive or store your payment card details at any point

The About section contains links to Carrot Cottage Rescue's social media profiles and a PayPal donation link. Tapping these links opens external websites or apps. Their own privacy policies apply once you leave Whisker Guide.

Children's Privacy
Whisker Guide is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this app, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
